Finding your personal style is a journey worth taking. At times, it can be overwhelming to sift through fashion trends, magazines, and browse what may seem like endless racks of clothing but it can help you discover your fashion sense and boost your confidence. Here are ten ways to discover your personal fashion sense and unleash your inner style icon.

1. Take a look at fashion magazines.

Fashion magazines are packed with inspiring fashion images, articles, and news about what is hip and happening in the world of fashion.

2. Find a favorite fashion blog.

There are many fashion blogs out there for just about every kind of fashion niche. Check out social media to find your new favorite blog.

3. Research fashion trends.

You can research fashion trends by searching online, going to your local department store to see for yourself what is trending, reading fashion publications (like FASHIONKRUSH!), tuning into fashion shows, and observing street style.

4. Read about fashion history.

Read a book about fashion history and discover the origins of the things we wear and why we wear them. Here are three of my favorites: 1.) 19th-Century Fashion in Detail 2.) The Fashion Book 3.) Fashion History

5. Identify your style icons.

Is there anyone who’s style resonates with you? It could be a friend, family member, model, blogger, actress, or anyone whose style you admire. Determine what it is that you like about this particular person’s style and let it inspire your own.

6. Build a capsule wardrobe.

Curate a collection of versatile pieces that you love. Invest in quality pieces with no expiration date. Start with reliable classics that you can mix and match.

7. Experiment with different looks.

If you find yourself stuck wearing the same color or the same silhouettes, it may be time for a change. Don’t be afraid to dabble outside your comfort zone by trying new styles, colors, or fabrics.

8. Get inspired by social media.

Head to your favorite social media platform for some style inspiration. Check out trends and new styles that you can make your own. My favorite is Pinterest.

9. Keep a fashion journal.

Consider jotting down your wardrobe wish list, places you want to shop, and your favorite looks. If you come across fashion images that you love, save them and place them in your journal. Jot down how you feel in your favorite clothes. Practice self-reflection and write down things about your style that you want to change or try. Jot down your favorite fashion quotes for inspiration. 1.) Vogue Fashion Journal 2.) Fashion Journal 3.) I Don’t Do Fashion, I Am Fashion Journal

10. Shop at a variety of stores.

If you shop only one brand or shop at only one store, you could be missing out on what others can offer. Be open to trying on clothes from different brands in different styles to see what works for you. Some of my favorite places to shop are Nordstrom, Amazon, and Target.
