Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Coming To London
Calling all McQueen fans! Mark your calendars. Start booking your flights. Prepare to fully immerse yourself in the world of Alexander McQueen! Originated in 2011 by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is coming to London’s Victoria & Albert Museum! In partnership with Swarovski and supported by American Express, the V&A will present the first and only major retrospective in Europe of the visionary designer. The exhibition opens 14 March and will continue through 19 July 2015. Savage Beauty will be edited and expanded for the V&A’s large exhibition galleries. It will feature 30 additional rare and early pieces lent by private individuals and collectors such as Katy England and Annabelle Neilson. In addition, there will also be pieces from the Isabella Bow Collection and the House of Givenchy featured. An exciting new section will be added to the exhibit which will focus on McQueen’s fledging development as a designer in London. Another must-see that has been expanded is the Cabinet of Curiosities, which will highlight the designer’s collaborations with jeweller Shaun Lane and milliner Philip Treacy. It will feature about 40 additional objects that have not previously been seen together. In total, the exhibition will showcase more than 200 ensembles and accessories, the largest number of individual pieces designed by Alexander McQueen and collaborators ever seen together. Each section of the exhibit promises to capture the true essence of McQueen’s extravagant and dramatic catwalk presentations that became his unmistakeable signature.
